I am a proud, progressive liberal, and I attempt to deliver intelligent comment with a lot of information thrown in. I don’t know if I succeed in that effort, but I try like hell. So, if you are a political junkie, please join me for a dose of cold water reality, otherwise known as politics.  I took a couple of days off to clean up the Archives Section, here at Calamity Politics. I updated some posts, and deleted some others. If as a reader, you have a particular interest in something happening on the U.S. political scene, just drop me a note via the contact form or email me: calamity@gmail.com.  I will check it out, and see what information I can give you. I’m always trying to post something new and interesting. So, if you have something on your mind, share it with me.

Not Ready For Prime Time

The President of the United States has pushed his son-in-law, husband of his older daughter Ivanka, into one of the most visible positions on the world stage. From the looks of it, Jared Kushner, may not be ready for prime time. His foreign policy experience and diplomatic education is thin, to say the least. Jared Kushner, is the son of wealthy New Jersey real estate mogul and felon, Charles Kushner. The elder Kushner, served 2 years of a 5 year sentence, after pleading guilty to 18 felony counts, including tax fraud, election violations, and witness tampering. He, in fact, tried to blackmail his own brother-in-law in a scheme to prevent him from testifying against him in his criminal case.

Senior Advisor

Jared has been tapped by Trump to be a “Senior Advisor” based solely on nepotism. It cannot be argued by any one, that Jared Kushner has a resume that would not have gotten him past the White House kitchen door, if another man was in the Oval Office. Because of his thoughtful marriage, Jared has become the driving force behind much of President Trump’s major foreign policy and domestic initiatives. Not bad for a 36-year-old guy, whose Dad had to give $2.5 million dollars to Harvard to get his ass admitted. It just shows, if your family is wealthy, you can be a mediocre student and still get a top-tier education.

Middle East Peace

Prior to the Inauguration, Donald Trump told the London Times, “Jared will be given expansive powers to broker peace between Israel and the Palestinians. He’s knows how to make deals.” Trump, obviously impressed by his ‘golden boy’ continued, “He knows the people, he knows the players, and the region. If he can’t produce peace in the Middle East, nobody can.”

Meets With Iraqi Leaders

Last week, Jared accompanied by Chief of Staff, General James Dunford, met near Mosul with Iraqi leaders to discuss the continuation of the co-operative effort to eradicate ISIS in Iraq and Syria. I have to admit, I thought he looked a bit awkward with the flak jacket cinched tight over his suit coat, sitting in the front seat of an Army helicopter.

A Vanity Office

Prior to taking his Iraq trip, Kushner was appointed to head the new, “Office of American Innovation.” Part of that assignment is to “innovate and solve” the growing addiction to heroin, morphine and prescription medications that is hammering communities across America. Well, Chris Christie is also part of that office and he is acting as front man for the anti-drug initiative, giving Jared more time to travel and rub elbows with oligarchs and Middle Eastern bankers.

Assignments

Jared’s dizzying array of assignments as of 4-14-17 despite his lack of prior government experience are:
1.) Broker peace between Israelis and Palestinians
2.) Eradicate ISIS from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan
3.) Act as Chinese connection
4.) Resolve diplomatic issues between Trump and Mexican President, Enrique Pena Nieto.

A Calming Influence

Jared is viewed as a calming influence on Trump. Kushner is a major influence and key decision maker within the Trump inner circle. I think they may be two of a kind, one just a lot younger, and quieter. It seems Trump and Kushner do share many commonalities. Neither of them are as good at business as they say they are. Both are reportedly vindictive and spiteful. Both men, hate the media, but, both are happy to manipulate it. Able to ignore their personal bigotry and racism when it serves their needs. Both will throw associates under the bus, without a second thought. And, finally willing to push their ‘brand’ no matter the circumstance.

Not As Good At Business As They Tell Us

As an example, when the elder Kushner went to prison, Jared took the family fortune, moved into Manhattan real estate and bought a 1.8 billion dollar money-sucking investment. For no other reason than the albatross had symbolic image. The purchase of 666 5th Ave, New York, was a very risky purchase, but it was a landmark Manhattan property. Charles Kushner, since his release from prison is back to managing the Kushner, Co. The Kushner Co. has tried for the last several years to sell the 5th Avenue property. So far he hasn’t been able to sell it.

Vindictive

Jared was angry with a man named Richard Mack and reportedly Kushner wanted to use his newspaper to discredit Mack. It is not clear whether he actually took that considered action. In this way he resembles his father-in-law. We all know how Trump is notoriously vengeful, and will attack at any moment, for any reason. Remember, poor Rosie O’Donnell?

Racism Forgotten

Thirdly, both men seem able to ignore racism and bigotry, when it fits their plans and needs. Kanye West has fallen for Trump’s love the black man talk. And there is Steve Bannon, white supremacist extraordinaire, hovering about  the West Wing of the White House.

Under The Bus

Another personality similarity, is that both men have no problem dumping people, at a moments notice. Kushner, reportedly says, jettisoning disloyal friends is like “exfoliation.” Gen. Flynn was just tossed under the Trump bus, and I expect Steve Bannon will also see the bottom of that same bus, as he is cast from favor.

Exploiting The Presidency

Fourthly, both men seemed bent on exploiting the family’s new and unprecedented position of power and fame. Katy Waldman, writing for Slate.com, suggests Jared’s effete facade conceals burning ambition. Katy identifies him as a “ruthless hustler, who believes the United States is his personal ‘Start-Up’. “Ruthless hustler,” sounds just like father-in-law.
