Biden Metrics

The Breakfast Club

On Friday morning, May 22, 2020 Joe Biden ventured ‘virtually’ out of his basement to talk to well-known radio host, Charlamagne Tha God, on his nationally syndicated radio program, “The Breakfast Club”. Charlamagne is a Black man, with a large Black audience. That means he has a lot of power to influence Black voters, a great many of them younger voters. Joe Biden’s interview ruffled a lot of feathers. And now 48 hours later the cable television shows are filled with chest thumping Trump supporters, Democratic hand wringers, and Biden apologizers.

Who I Am

Who am I to weigh in on this issue? Some would call me an elderly White woman. I would describe myself as a writer-journalist. It is all about perspective. First, I want to make it clear that by writing this article I am in no way attempting to minimize or be dismissive of Black suffering in this country. I am in no way putting myself into the shoes of any Black or Brown person. But, I will say, that Black and Brown people are not alone in their struggle against discrimination, including economic and physical abuse. As a woman I want to say I have been denied equal pay. I have been denied credit. I have faced verbal and physical attack, including rape. This country, for all of its proclaimed “greatness” is far less than what it could and should be.

Two Major Complaints

Two elements of outrage have emerged. The first, being Biden using the term, “hey, man” multiple times during the interview, as if he were pandering to the Black community. This attack is totally brainless. Biden uses, that phrase in nearly every interview, and has for years. It is his go to phrase, as he is thinking about his response to a question. So, please put that one away. There is no pandering in that phrase, at least on the part of Joe Biden. The second critique, is  certainly the most important. Charlamagne challenged Biden to define substantive policies that he planned to introduce that would benefit Black communities if he was elected.  At that point, Joe pivoted to a comparison of himself to Trump, inferring if you support Trump, “you ain’t Black.”

Women Voters

If I had been interviewing Joe Biden and he had responded with, “you ain’t a woman,” if you support or vote for Trump. I would have bent over in laughter. Not because Biden said such a stupid thing, but because it mirrored my own thinking when I found out that women I know, voted for Trump. I am in fact shocked that any woman would vote for Trump. The man has a disgusting history of offensive and abusive behavior toward women. He has violated his marital vows in each of his three marriages. He was screwing porn stars when his wife was pregnant with his fifth kid.

Trump Ain’t No Friend of Women

Statistics from 2016 indicate Hillary Clinton received 45% of the White women’s vote and 82% of the vote of women of color. Trump received 47% of White women’s vote and 16% of women of color’s vote. This is quite different than the 53% of White women that Trump has boasted of. Trump’s claims aside, I still wonder how could Trump have secured more White female votes than Hillary?

Trump’s History of Abuse

Trump is an admitted “pussy grabber.” Twenty-five women have publicly accused Trump of sexual misconduct. Two of those women claimed he raped them. One of the two rape victims, claims Trump raped her at pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s mansion when she was 13 years old. Porn star Stormy Daniels (Stephanie Clifford) was paid $150,000 to keep quiet about her relationship with Trump prior to the 2016 election. Former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal sold her story to The National Enquirer claiming she engaged in a year long affair with Trump during Melania’s pregnancy and immediately after her giving birth to Trump’s 5th child. Trump’s rudeness and disrespect toward women is legendary. In fact, we see it every time he interacts with a female reporter. As a woman I am amazed that he can garner even a single vote from any woman.

Trump’s A Racist

Trump has a long history of racial discrimination and has been called a racist by many who know him, including two people who worked for him, Omarosa and Michael Cohen. In the 1970’s Trump and his father were sued by the Justice Department for housing discrimination. They settled and admitted no guilt despite allegations that they denied housing to Blacks and Puerto Ricans. In 1989 Trump took out newspaper ads demanding that five young Black men be executed for a crime they were later exonerated for.

Trump’s Bigotry Goes On

During 2008 Trump jumped on the birther bandwagon.  He repeatedly accused Obama of being born in Kenya. Trump began his 2016 presidential campaign by claiming Mexicans were druggies, criminals and rapists. In August 2017, in Charlottesville, VA White supremacists gathered to preserve the statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Trump declared the torch carrying White Supremacists and Neo-Nazi’s to be “very fine people.” Trump has his Justice Department working to undermine voting rights of Blacks. With a history like Trump’s why would Biden not be amazed that Trump has any Black voter support.

Trump’s Immorality Is The Heart Of The Matter

Political pundits keep saying Biden must present a strong policy statement and a definitive platform to beat Trump. “You can’t just run against Trump,” they say. I ask, “Why the hell not?” Seriously, Trump is a terrible person. He is totally lacking in moral character. He has no redeeming qualities. Running a campaign against Trump’s immorality is to me the heart of the election. Biden should focus on Trump’s criminal and deviant behavior. In addition to his historically bad behavior we now have a 100,000 dead from the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Democrats will write a platform that Biden can embrace and promote that will be far better for women, and people of color than anything Trump will ever give us. It is time to throw Trump and his corrupt and bigoted administration out of office. Hate is bad for the country. Joe Biden can rescue the soul of our country.
