Trump Slush Fund Scandal

Trump Slush Fund Scandal

Inaugural Donors

After Trump’s election, the campaign asked for contributors to the Presidential Inauguration. Lo and behold, they collected the biggest Inaugural nest egg in history.  The total take, which was just disclosed by the Trump Administration in Federal Election Commission filings this week, totaled a staggering 106.7 million dollars. It was the largest haul in inaugural history. There were obviously some very happy Republicans.

Rachel Maddow Show

The Inaugural fund-raising was the lead story on The Rachel Maddow Show, the other night.  Rachel told her audience that there was an ongoing investigation. In fact, the investigatory group had tracked down a large number of suspicious donor names and phony addresses. According to the watchdogs, there were strange names, such as Katherine Johnson, NASA. Really? Not the Katherine Johnson made famous in Hidden Figures? NASA? I guess the recorder didn’t expect anyone to be checking those names and addresses. There were also several vacant lots listed as residences. Strange.

FEC

The campaign rep apparently got wind of the investigation by the watchdog  group, and notified the FEC that the Inaugural Committee needed to make some adjustments to the filing.  My antennae are vibrating. The FEC is an independent regulatory agency whose primary duties are to show campaign finance information, enforce laws related to prohibitions on contributions, and to oversee public funding of elections.

The Numbers Don’t Add Up

Besides, the phony names and addresses listed as donors, Rachel pointed out that there was no way possible that the Trump Inaugural Committee could have spent more than $50-$65 million.  Her question was, where is the difference? Let’s see 106.7 million minus 65 million.  If Rachel’s sources are right there is probably at least a 45-50 million dollar slush fund that the White House has squirreled away. Investigators are working overtime investigating Trump’s mounting scandals.

Hair On Fire

I’m not going to hold my breath, but at any other time in history, people would have their hair on fire and there would be drum beats for Impeachment over an alleged slush fund. But, this year a slush fund has little chance against, Russian election interference and agents for foreign governments appointed to the National Security Council.
