OPINION: What About Charlie?

Charlie? Charlie? Hmmm….Charlie. Charlie Kirk? Mmmm, Charlie Kirk. Who? I don’t know who this guy was but apparently his death beat out Jesus Christ for the top political murder in history.  On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk, an American right-wing political activist, was shot and killed while making a  speech at the Utah Valley University campus in Orem, Utah.

So-o-o-o this guy, Charlie Kirk, that more than three quarters of the country never heard of, is getting more fevered press than the crucifixion of  Jesus Christ. Certainly more histrionics than we got when then Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi’s 82 year old husband, Paul Pelosi, was attacked in their home and nearly beaten to death with a hammer by a pissed off MAGA guy. Or on Jun 14, 2025 — House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman (D) Minnesota lawmaker and her husband, Mark, were fatally shot in their home by a right wing extremist with little more than a ripple on the political airwaves.

Charles James Kirk made it big on the force of his personality. He dropped out of college after one semester, that’s right, Charlie Kirk only had a high school diploma. To be clear Charlie was not an expert on anything; at least anything you learn in books or college. That’s right he was just a high school grad and he was influencing millions of people with his OPINION and purported knowledge.
So how much is the opinion of a 31 year old high school grad worth? Apparently, for the Republicans a whole lot. Charlie had no studied expertise, just emotion, and the  catch phrases and the red meat words that attracted and kept his listeners calling for more of the same. Sounds a lot like Sean Hannity. Why are people even listening to the opinions of people with such limited education? I don’t want to be insulting, but really????  Despite his limited credentials Charlie turned himself into an entrepreneur, author, media personality, and influencer to millions as host of the Charlie Kirk Radio Show.
I care about this country; more specifically, I love this country and the ideas that Charlie Kirk was pushing go against everything that I believe in. Kirk supported a variety of conservative ideals, including opposition to abortion, gun control, DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) programs, and LGBT rights. He opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and denigrated black activist, MLK, Jr. AND, he was working with Pentecostal preacher, Rob McCoy, in support  of  (white) Christian Nationalism. Did I mention Charlie also thought women were mentally and emotionally inferior to men and should stay at home making babies for the state.
Charlie also liked his conspiracy theories, promoting COVID-19 misinformation, the false claims of electoral fraud in 2020, and of course the Great Replacement conspiracy theory, where supposedly the Democrats are bringing brown illegals into the United States to undermine and then replace the political power of the white race. Maybe, he actually sounds more like Tucker Carlson than Sean Hannity.
I personally feel most of Charlie’s ideas were morally wrong, but he was murdered and I am sorry for that. But, I’d be sorry if my neighbor was shot and killed. Just because the guy is now dead, doesn’t mean that I should be restricted from publicly disagreeing with his ideas and the policies those ideas generate. In fact, Charlie Kirk, now dead, at one time used his radio show to solicit a “patriot” to come forward and bail out David DePape the MAGA guy who assaulted Paul Pelosi, nearly killing him. Hmmmm.
This DePape character was later found guilty of assault, burglary, kidnapping, and false imprisonment associated with his attack on Paul Pelosi and is currently doing life without the possibility of parole. This is the fella that Charlie thought should be out walking among us.  Charlie loudly disparaged the notion that firebrand Republican rhetoric against Nancy Pelosi was in any way responsible for the attack on Paul Pelosi. He even chattered brainlessly on air that even though it was debunked conspiracy nonsense the hammer attack was the result of a gay sexual tryst gone bad.
What a great opportunity Charlie’s killing has given Trump to distract from the Epstein files. Now our budding dictator is goin off the rails raging against the deplorable Democrats, all the late night comediennes, and Joe and Hunter Biden. Imagine a 34 count felon  invoking God in his fevered attempting to fire up the hate in the country; separating friends from friends, parents from children, neighbor from neighbor, and co-worker from co-worker. But, bread and circus’s can only distract for so long before the American people either revolt or submit. I mean the AG Pam Bondi thinks we should punish free speech. That’s like unconstitutional talk; or at least it used to be.
So its okay for your guy to say whatever and whenever, but when it’s my guy we gotta sew our lips shut? I don’t think so, man, that just doesn’t sound right to me.
