Another Beach Day
D. S. Mitchell
I have been trying to stay calm. Morning meditation, a 3 mile walk on a misty beach, background acoustic guitar played today while I worked on my *novel. No cable news. Just me, and steady controlled breathing.
There are two special elections in the South today. The South, since the late 1960’s has been Republican red. When I was a kid, the Democrats owned the South. But, strangely enough in reaction to Civil Rights Legislation backed by the Democrats the South moved lock, stock and barrel to the Republican party.
I donated to both Democratic candidates, Archie Parnell in South Carolina, and Jon Ossoff in Georgia. Not much money, because I’m a pensioner, but I felt I had to at least put something in the pot. Not that I expect the Dems to win, but I have hope.
At 6:00 p.m. I turned off the soothing music and turned on Rachel Maddow and heard the bad news. Both Purnell and Ossoff lost their races. Obviously, the South has not had enough of Trumpism yet. Apparently, we’ll need to wait until 2018, because by then if there is anyone wearing a MAGA cap I’ll be more than a little surprised.
Calamity Politics is urging political participation by everyone. If you’re reading this post don’t forget to write, call, protest, run for office, anything to further the Resistance. One of the things that never gets people excited is organizing. But, grassroots organizing is essential. Knock on doors, talk to people, ask them what they are looking for in a candidate, and find a candidate that matches what that community is talking about. Whatever you do, don’t lose faith. Take heart from tonight’s results, learn from it. I hope it only feeds the Progressive energy. We just need to work harder. Keep phones ringing at the White House and at the Senate, they really hate that.
P.S. Rachel Maddow had a really interesting show tonight. Be sure to watch a replay (6/20/17). Fascinating reporting, about a special friend of Donald Trump, a Russian fella named Felix Sater. Rachel also highlighted new information on General Michael Flynn.
I remember the Russian, Felix Sater, from an earlier reporting. I mentioned his name in a 3/20/17 Calamity Politics post. My reference to Sater in that post is short. Rachel really digs into this man’s history, and its pretty ugly. She had some really fantastic information on this scum bag. He helped bring Russian money into several of Trumps properties that went belly up.
Sater is a convicted felon. He spent a year in jail for assault, and he is facing ten year old charges of defrauding hundreds of people out of over 45 million dollars in a pump and dump stock swindle. But, for the fraud he has done no time and got a small fine. A group of Italian Mafia thugs hooked up with a bunch of Russian mobsters, including Sater. The Italian thugs apparently brought the Russians mobsters into the scheme because the Russians had “known skills of off-shore banking tricks, and money laundering skills.”
Sater and Trump. Sater and Trump. Just kick that around a little bit. Racketeering, conspiracy, fraud, money laundering, mob connections? I don’t know but this story is big, and its getting bigger. I mean its gonna get really, really hot for the President of the United States. I have a feeling that they are going to uncover stuff about Trump that even he’s forgotten. Financial ties that began decades ago extending to the 2016 election and beyond.

If you have ever started writing a book you may understand what I mean.
