Truth
Editor: Another new writer joins the calamitypolitics.com family. Welcome, John Curran. In this piece John asks the same question that many are asking, is the lie going to win out over truth?
By John Curran
What I know is the truth. Now, Heavy D, saying something like that, if you’ve lived, and, if you really think about it, is quite a statement. It’s like bragging on yourself or something. There are many ways to look at it, to consider a statement like that. Well, I do know it damn it, this blessing and this curse, and, I have known it all my life. Many times during that period I have had to shortchange that knowledge, play the game as were, the fake game, just to get on down the road. Yeah man we all know what that statement entails, just to get on down the road. We play it all the time-this charade, it’s number 1, the new monopoly. And the trick, the way I see it, is to never lose sight of what it actually is, it being often in fact so far from any Truth that it is a joke, an inside sort of job, that a lot of folks get lost in and never come out. One gets too deep, too comfy. It, so to speak, works. It’s when it doesn’t work that is when you can see a lot more clearly just what it really is, the real Hurly Burly and if ya like it Baby, like it really really is, then this becomes the funniest joke of all, the recognition, the admission of what really is Truth. It’s hard to look at. Truth hurts. So get on with that lie. It can be very effective. It can paint a picture that is so horrible that it could, metaphorically speaking of course, incite actual mob violence. Or, does that seem too strange, to be real; too strange to give credence to? Beware, I kid you not. So, the Truth, when it’s all ya got to save your ass, ya finally realize, this is one damn thing we just cannot lose.

Well, Bill and Dave are busy today working on setting up the new Calamity News and Politics studio; more space, better lights, better equipment. All around a much better situation. There’s a lot of stuff that’s gotta go before they can bring in the new, however. Unfortunately, Bill is the one that’s doing all the physical work, while Dave gets to talk about all the work that’s going on, due to a recent injury. The guys thought it might be fun for folks to watch them set up their new space. The plan is for the studio to be ready no later than September one. Thanks for watching and come back soon.

Looking Back at Trump 2017
By D.S. Mitchell and Sallie Lester
Editors Note:
The Trump Town Hall on CNN the other night, had the hair on my arms standing up and I felt a deep visceral anger and disgust I haven’t felt since Trump was president. With that disgust of everything Trump renewed, I was prompted to go back and revisit numerous calamitypolitics.com articles from Trump’s first few months in office.
Listen folks, all you need to do is read the newspaper to know Trump is a bad dude. He is a shameless narcissist, a fake and a liar, a sexual predator, a grifter, a tax fraud, among many other proven things, but most importantly he is a real threat to our democracy. Now here he comes again, after fomenting an insurrection, asking us to give him a second chance to bring down the damn government. It’s happening in Israel, Hungary, and Turkey. It could happen here. We must stop Captain Chaos. Donate to the re-elect Biden-Harris 2024 presidential campaign.
Back in 2016
Millions of people across the country were deeply disturbed and shocked in 2016 after the Electoral College determined Donald J. Trump to have been elected president of the United States. Many protested in the streets, some like me took to the computer to Resist the insanity of a TV huckster and an absurdity like Donald Trump becoming president.

“Just Dave” Netanyahu Time To Leave
An end of an era is approaching. Numerous factions of Israeli political parties have come to an agreement to oust Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu within the next two weeks. The world is holding its breath. Netanyahu and his hard line anti-Palestinian policies have been the face of Israel for at least the last fifteen years. From handsome war hero, to dynamic politician, to accused criminal Bibi has few supporters left. Netanyahu has been clinging desperately to power to also avoid prosecution for multiple corruption charges. Dave has a rant on this situation, just like most others.

Mother Earth Is Begging For Help
Mother Earth, Protect Her
By D. S. Mitchell
No Planet B, For Me
Calamity Politics is pro-environment. I hope all our readers are pro-environment. Earth is the only planet I’m ever going to set foot on. I see her as a nurturing, caring, loving place that needs reciprocal love and care. We need to get this right; for the grandchildren, and the great-grandchildren. I want to make climate change and environmental protection a priority. We are in the middle of the Democratic 2020 primaries. Biden and Sanders are still battling it out. Recent primaries do appear to have Biden overwhelming the Vermont senator. Whoever wins the nomination must make Climate Change and environmental protection a top national issue.
Four More Years Could Seal Mom’s Fate
The Trump environmental wrecking crew is at the gates. As each day passes, I become more agitated. I am afraid that we will not be able to mount a sufficient defense against their heavy-handed onslaught against the environment. The agency that is most responsible for that protection, the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has been decimated by Trump and his Fossil Fuel allies.
In the Courts
The Sierra Club’s donations are up. The World Wildlife Fund donations are also reportedly, up. I think we will need every environmental organization on the planet to stop the assault on the planet. Hopefully their resistance will be both through lawsuits in the courts and active street protests against Trump’s dangerous agenda. It is important to recognize that U.S. politics effect policy worldwide, not just nationwide. We are an example to the world. What we do, other countries do.
Embrace the Future
Clean energy is better for the economy and it is better for Mother Earth. Time to wrestle control of environmental policy and legislation from the fossil fuel industry and their army of lobbyists. The remnants of the dirty Industrial Revolution must come to an end. Let’s look forward, and embrace the future. We are moving into the Technological Era. Parts of the transition will be painful, acceptance is the first step. If you are affected by a changing industry, change yourself, change your skills. Become part of the future, not a useless relic of the past.
From Australia to the Amazon
Whether it is the wild fires in California, or the Amazon; millions of animals are being killed or displaced by wildfires. Many of the fires are set by humans as a quick means to clear land for cattle grazing or palm oil production. In Australia recent fires were also caused intentionally by man. The Australian fires have caused the death of an estimated one million animals. At the other extreme, the polar ice caps are melting at an incredible rate. This loss of ice is creating big trouble for animals who depend on the ice for hunting and nesting. These emergencies must be addressed quickly, we don’t have much time.
The Orange Whore
President Trump and environmental corruption are center stage in the 2020 election. Whoring with fossil fuel barons, erasing climate change regulations, abandoning the Paris Climate Agreement, increasing offshore oil leases, supporting coal mining has made it clear, Donald Trump is no friend of Mother Earth. He has revealed his true heart, and it is nothing more than a dollar sign. Trump and the greedy fossil fuel abusers would kill Mom and dance at her funeral. It is up to us, to stop the war on our planet. Time to elect Democrats, from the state houses to the White House. Mom’s life is at stake.

Simple Life Lessons From My Mom’s Kitchen
Life Lessons From My Mom’s Kitchen
By D. S. Mitchell
Life Lessons and Distant Memories
At the time of this writing, my mother has been dead for 32 years. But, every time I go into the kitchen she is there waiting for me, or more truthfully, she comes with me. She is not there in a bodily form of course, but from my heart and distant memories she emerges and pats me on the shoulder, and kiss’ my cheek.
The Chemistry of Memories
I don’t understand the chemistry of memories, but I am sure that every time I bring out her hand-typed recipe book, she hums her little work song and reminds me that she is always with me. As I remember the times I spent cooking with her; whether it was making dinners, prepping picnics, devising scrumptious desserts, or savory breads, I learned a great deal more than cooking tips. I now realize it was in my mother’s kitchen that I grew into the woman I am, where I learned the things that are most important in life.
Apples Everywhere
The Apple Quake is my all-time favorite cake, topped with my most favorite frosting. In the 1950’s everybody knew somebody that had fruit trees. It seems most people in today’s busy world forego fruit trees when they plan their landscaping. Without the fruit trees busy people don’t need to feel guilty because they have left the fruit rotting on the ground unwanted and unused.
Buy Local
I am so glad to see a slow but growing movement in this country to bring fresh unprocessed foods back to the American table. God bless each person that rises up and demands safe, local food sources. Read about it. Get concerned. Get involved. Demand, Fresh & Local.
APPLE QUAKE
- 3 eggs
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 cup olive oil
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 to 3 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 to 2 Tb. vanilla
- 5 green apples, washed but unpeeled
- 1/2 cup walnuts
Directions:
In a large bowl combine eggs, sugar, olive oil and vanilla with a mixer.
In a separate bowl combine flour, cinnamon, soda, and salt; when well blended add to the egg mixture. Lastly, add walnuts to the cake mix and blend together gently. Spread the thinly sliced apples over the bottom of the greased glass baking dish. Pour batter over the apples. Batter will be very thick. Place the batter into the sides and corners first, and then into the center. Let the batter sit for about five minutes to make sure that the batter is evenly distributed before placing it in the pre-heated oven. Bake: in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour. Remove from oven and cool thoroughly. Frost: generously with cream cheese frosting. Refrigerate: left overs.
MOM’S CREAM CHEESE FROSTING
- 8 oz. softened cream cheese
- 2 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup softened salted butter
- 1 to 2 Tbs. (or more) lemon juice to taste
In a medium bowl cream together the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Mix in lemon juice, gradually stir in powdered sugar, beat until smooth. Frost cake.
Somewhat Vague
The measurements for cinnamon, vanilla, and even the lemon juice for the frosting are somewhat vague, I admit, but there is a lesson here. LIFE LESSON: As my mother would say, “be generous”, especially if you like a particular flavor. I think that is wise. If you like something-always be generous in its use. When you believe in a cause, give generously of your time. If you love someone, give generously of your kindness and respect. If you are dedicated to a project then generously donate your money. What you love and believe in deserves your generous contribution of time, energy, and yes, even money.
**The name Apple Quake came from my young pronunciation of cake. Cake, quake–get it?
“Every Heartbeat Hurts”
“Every Heartbeat Hurts”
By D. S. Mitchell
“Imagine a child trying to describe how trauma physically feels and saying to you, “Every heartbeat hurts.” Our government is tearing children apart and using their pain for political purposes”. Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley (Twitter 9/5/2019).
If you are ignoring the plight of the immigrant children at our border, shame on you. The manipulation of their immigration tragedy for Trump’s political base is both alarming and disgusting. There are many days between now and the 2020 presidential election. These kids can’t wait. Call your Senator and demand that these children be released to family members in the United States, or other suitable foster care.
I called. So should you.
