Real Life

Mick is painting a cabinet.  I’m reading Forbes magazine. The crows are chattering in the trees, and the frogs are chorusing in the pond. Lily is laying in front of the fireplace, and yes, it’s still raining.  Everything feels normal, in Surf Pines, Oregon. Although, I’m not writing a blog article at the moment, I am thinking about the one I wrote last night and am about to post, titled  “10 Trump Tidbits”.

Trump Tidbits :

1.) Trump’s new Muslim Travel Ban was blocked today by a 9th Circuit Court judge, in Hawaii.  Causing a breathless Tweet storm from the president Trump.  2.) A surprisingly brave Department of Justice declared, “There’s no evidence, that former President Obama wiretapped Trump Tower”.  3.)  Russian government hackers were charged by the DOJ with cyber attacks on 500,000,000 Yahoo account holders in a 2014 intrusion.  4.) The first two pages of Trump’s 2005 tax return was leaked to the press.  He made $203,000,000 that year placing him in a 25% tax bracket at the time.  5.)  The government estimates that 24-26 million U.S. citizens will lose health care under the proposed “repeal and replace” Republican plan.

And On It Goes:

6.) Trump continues to crisscross the country holding rallies. I wonder how much his ‘campaign’ rallies are costing all of us who didn’t vote for him?  7.) Breitbart furiously attacked the American Health Care Plan, calling on President Trump to scuttle Ryan’s proposed health care plan. Trump meanwhile is still trying to drum up support for the dying plan  8.) Rex Tillerson, the introverted U.S. Secretary of State, is traveling without the American press corp for the first time in modern times.  9.)  A belligerent North Korea shot another missile into the Sea of Japan. 10.)  The shamed former NSA Trump appointee, General Michael Flynn belatedly registered himself as “a foreign agent”.

Lily Time

So, now that we have had another glimpse into Trump World I am ready to get back to my world. Anyone owned by a dog, understands my life. Lily  just dropped her leash at my feet. She has never been subtle. She must have noticed a break in the rain. As my mother would say, “take the dog out”.

No, Not Today

It’s another rainy day at the beach. I know it sounds like a long season of re-runs. So I’ve got time to play a game. All I need to do, to get a break at Calamity Politics, is shut off the work switch. Silly, but I’m not in the mood to be serious today. I was going to write an in-depth, thought-provoking, political post on Kim Jung Un and the burgeoning North Korean threat. However, I’ve changed my mind.

Rules Of The Game

Here are the rules of today’s game. I will open a dictionary. From the two open pages, keeping the words in sequential order I will write a story. The story of course will center on a well-known politician and his family.  I challenge you to do it. It is harder than it sounds.

So, here we go. The dictionary I will be using is, Everyday America English Dictionary, Edited by Ricard A. Spears, et al.  NTC (National Textbook Company) 1987.  Pages 130-131.

Daddy Knows Best

Donald Trump dropped his  fountain pen on the desk, and asked, “What’s for dinner tonight?”

“Some form of fowl that Donald Jr, bagged when he was on safari in Texas,” Ivanka answered.

“You are a fox,” Big Daddy Trump gushed, leering suggestively.

“Stop it, Daddy.”

Do you know what fraction of the federal budget is being spent on Jr.’s security detail?  Some woman reporter asked me today, and I had no idea.  Do you know?”

“Oh, Daddy, don’t worry about such stuff.  Just stamp it TOP SECRET,  and if that ‘fake news’ lady asks again, you just tell her it’s, classified.”

“Of course, of course. You’re right, sweetie.  I have more power in my twitter finger than ANYONE else in the world!  Especially some ‘fake news’ reporter.”

“We should have that finger insured.  What if there’s a fracture?  It would be a disaster,” she said, bobbing her head in confirmation.

“Careful, Daddy, that bowl is very old and very fragile.  Michelle Obama called it historic. She said something about Dolley Madison.

“Historic?” Trump repeated, simultaneously tossing the object skyward and catching it with his left hand.

“Daddy, please, stop juggling it. Stop it.”

A Headache Coming On

I was flipping TV channels, as part of my job at Calamity Politics, looking for a tip, or a hot lead for today’s political blog post. Lo and behold. Here she comes, anorexic and demented. Kellyanne Conway, you are a real hard one to watch.  Talk about a dog chasing her tail.  Round and round, you go, never answering a question, always tagging back to the same tired, old worn rhetoric. Campaign rhetoric. Talk about political spin. You’re giving me a headache.

The Republicans, keep telling us Democrats to move on, “You lost.  Get out of our way, we have damage to do.”

But, no one apparently, has told Conway, or the White House.  The campaign is done, so let us start responding to questions about Now, Not your fabricated yesterdays. It is boring and unseemly to have you folks all using the same script, the same words, the same outrage, banging the same drum.

Please, go back into the White House, Alice, because I think you have a lunch date with the Mad Hatter.

My World

Calamity Politics is a political blog that presents the world as I see it. I am hard on the Republicans, but they deserve it. My political comments today center around the ACA and the Republican attempt to restore pre-Obama times.

A Healthy Citizen

Everybody in this crowd wants to go backward. What the fuck, is going on in their heads. A healthy citizenry is one of the best resources a country has at its core. Every civilized western country has health care for all. No questions, no arguments, it is a recognized right of citizenry.

The Grand Lie

Why is that concept so difficult for American politicians to embrace. This great, grand lie, that we make it on our own is some dime novelists idea of the American ideal. The fact is, we have a lot of sick people in this country that cannot pay the exorbitant cost of health care, or health insurance without government help.

Trump Failure

Calamity News and Politics is giving the Trump Administration an F on its environmental policy. In fact if possible I would give the Trump administration a Z for their environmental policy. Trump has installed lobbyists in key EPA positions, while dramatically cutting funding to this essential agency. This is at a time when climate change is on the forefront of world wide concerns. There is a systemic denial of science in this administration, beginning with the president himself. We need a White House that leans toward what is good for Mother Earth not toward a policy that enriches a few while endangering Earth and her children.

Growing Nationalism

Climate change is a clear and present danger.  Most experts  predict huge population shifts, secondary to forced migration.  Shrinking resources, famine, war and rising sea levels, will push people from their native homelands into adjoining countries.  Displaced populations will elevate tensions and potentially promote rising nationalism.

An OMG Moment

On March 1, 2017 the temperature in Cairo, Egypt and Antarctica both reached 63.5 F. The poles are facing dramatic climate change, more so than other geographic areas of the planet. There is little time and much to do. The decisions of governments will be the key to our future. Where the environment is concerned, elections matter.

Descent Into Madness

Experience

I am a Registered Nurse. Over my 38 year career I spent 10 years in Crisis Psychiatry. The symptoms of mental disorder I see in Trump are quite concerning. Quite flatly, Donald Trump is mentally ill. My observations are not political, but clinical. As a professional I see symptoms every day that Mr. Trump is deeply disturbed, both mentally and emotionally. I know, I am not alone in this belief.  There has been a consensus among mental health professionals that President Trump is clearly mentally ill. I have disliked presidents and presidential policies, in the past.  I have disliked certain presidential personality traits.  But, never once, have I doubted a president’s mental capacity.

Grave Danger

If  President Trump is as sick as I believe he is, his continued occupation of the White House is a minute by minute threat to our survival as a country.  His mental illness is a grave danger to the country we love. Caligula, Hitler, Stalin, come to mind. I am sure you would be peeing your pants if one of these mentally ill men had access to our country’s nuclear weapons.  Hell, yeah, you would be terrified. But, it goes beyond the nuclear codes.

I saw a tweet this morning that was both amusing and true. I thought it summed up the U.S. political news of the day. Twitter is a place you can let your political uneasiness flower.

Rhetoric Galore

The ‘Muslim ban’, ‘the wall’, ‘make America great again,” have receptive listeners. Such rhetoric is part of Donald Trump, Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller’s war against people of color.  If it was just about terrorists we would look north. The Canadian border however is no concern because to Trump because it separates two predominately white countries.  If it were really about illegal immigration there are other issues besides our southern border. Why hasn’t the president called for a sweep to pick up of all the Irish visitors who have  over stayed their visas?  Statistics show that most of the illegal immigrants are here after over staying legally obtained visas. These visa abusers flew into the country, they didn’t walk across our southern desert.

Calamity News and Politics doesn’t want you to grab the pitchforks and torches yet, but that could become a necessity. The noise around the Trump White House and it’s growing descent into Putin Land is quite alarming. Just because I’m a liberal. I’ve noticed red-necks are always quick to label me a “red” or a “commie.” Strange considering I’ve never even met a Russian. Since Trump began his campaign, the United States political scene has been dominated with Russians. Unheard of in American political history.

A Long Time Here

I’ve been around the U.S. political scene for a long time. I was born in 1946, I was small, but I remember Truman as president. The campaigns of Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Reagan, Carter, Bush I, Clinton, Bush II, Obama and now Trump are still vivid. Not once, did I ever hear any of these men, until Trump, espouse a Russian dictator as a great leader. Putin is a criminal who is known to kill his political enemies. And Trump thinks Putin is  “an amazing leader”. Peculiar to say the least.

A Progressive Agenda

I am admittedly a Liberal-Progressive. Calamity News and Politics is a known progressive political blog. Calamity has a serious agenda. My agenda is to put Democrats and Independents in office at all levels of American government. I am working to make that a reality in 2018. And, maybe, that is why I find the Republican trash that keeps blowing up in my face, really irritating. Such as: Paul Ryan had the guts to say, “the Dems have their hair on fire for no reason.”  Ted Cruz says, “It’s a nothing burger.”  “Keep moving.  Nothing to see here,” advises a grinning Mitch McConnell.

A Thing Of Interest

It seems many high-profile Republicans just can’t figure out why the people of the United States are interested in finding out the facts.  It has come out that  Attorney General Jeff Sessions, despite sworn testimony, had at least two meetings with the Russian Ambassador while he was acting as a surrogate for the Trump campaign. That information is big news, only to those outside the Republican party.
